Quickstart

For AI agents (MCP)

Connect to the hosted MCP URL or run Hako's npm CLI as a local stdio server. Both serve hako_discover and hako_inspect for free; runs are paid with your PayBox wallet.

Hako exposes the same two free tools in two standard MCP ways:

ConnectionHow the client connectsCost
HostedStreamable HTTP at https://api.usehako.site/mcpfree
LocalStarts npx -y usehako mcp over stdiofree

Neither server holds a key or pays for anything. A run is paid from your PayBox wallet (below).

Hosted MCP: connect by URL

No install is needed. Add https://api.usehako.site/mcp as a Streamable HTTP server in your MCP client. For example:

codex mcp add hako --url https://api.usehako.site/mcp
claude mcp add --transport http hako https://api.usehako.site/mcp

Local MCP: run the npm CLI

The CLI runs an MCP server on your machine over stdio. Node.js 20 or later is required. npx -y usehako mcp works without a global install; after npm install -g usehako you may launch hako mcp instead.

  "mcpServers": {
    "hako": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "usehako", "mcp"]
    }
  }
}

HAKO_API_URL points the local server at another gateway (default https://api.usehako.site).

The tools

ToolCostInputReturns
hako_discoverfreequery (at least 2 characters), limit (1–25, default 5)Ranked candidates with id, price, health and hints
hako_inspectfreeid, e.g. firecrawl/searchDescription, input JSON Schema, output schema, price and an example; both servers add paidUrl and howToPay (on the hosted server, paidUrl is null when the tool cannot be paid for there, and howToPay says why)

A local tool result longer than 12,000 characters is cut, and ends with …[truncated].

Paying for a run

Connect PayBox to the same agent (PayBox's own MCP connector). The agent inspects the tool with Hako, then calls PayBox's use_service with https://api.usehako.site/v2/run/<provider>/<endpoint>, method POST and the tool's input as the body. PayBox pays the exact price in USDC on Base from your wallet and returns the answer.

Try it

With Hako and PayBox both connected, ask your agent: "Use Hako to find the latest release of astral-sh/uv." It should call hako_discover, then hako_inspect on github/latest-release, then PayBox's use_service on https://api.usehako.site/v2/run/github/latest-release with {"repo": "astral-sh/uv"} ($0.001).
