mcp
Serve Hako to an AI agent as a local MCP server over stdio, with hako_discover and hako_inspect. Free.
This page covers the local MCP server built into the npm CLI. Your MCP client starts it as a command over stdio. The same two tools are also available from the hosted MCP server at https://api.usehako.site/mcp over Streamable HTTP. Choose a connection and set it up.
npx -y usehako mcpThe server speaks MCP over stdio, so an MCP client starts it as a command. Setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and Codex is in For AI agents (MCP).
Tools
hako_discover
Free. Ranks the catalog for a job.
| Input | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
query | string | yes | At least 2 characters |
limit | integer | no | 1 to 25; default 5 |
hako_inspect
Free. One tool's contract: description, input JSON Schema, output schema, price, example, and the paidUrl and howToPay that inspect prints.
| Input | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
id | string | yes | e.g. firecrawl/search |
Paid runs
The local server holds no key and pays for nothing. A run is paid from your PayBox wallet: with PayBox connected to the same agent, the agent calls PayBox's use_service with the tool's paidUrl, method POST and the input as body.
Behaviour
- Results are JSON text. A result longer than 12,000 characters is cut and ends with
…[truncated]. - A call that cannot complete (a network error, or
hako_inspecton an unknown id) comes back as an MCP tool error with the message.
